I disagreed on the miracle question...

“저는 기적질문에 대해서 반대했습니다.”

  Well, they often think, the miracle question is like the symbol of SFBT. But even in the early days of BFTC, some of founders disagreed on the miracle question. Here is some lines about it. I totally agree with Elam Nunnally. Please, let it be free. 

  해결중심치료, 하면 딱 떠오르는 기술이 ‘기적질문’이다. 마치 상징처럼. 하지만 해결중심치료는 기적질문으로 환원될 수 없다. 달을 가리키는 손가락처럼, 기적질문은 해결책 구축으로 나아가는 하나의 수단이요 도구일 뿐이다. 어떻게 기적질문이 개발되었는지, 왜 기적질문을 사용하는지를 살펴보면 쉽게 알 수 있다. 

  “Eve and I did disagree somewhat on the miracle question, which was made almost into a relic. I don't think the miracle is really about the miracle question, but rather everything that makes the client think in terms of a problem-free future. The miracle question is only one way of doing it. Insoo and Steve, on the other hand, don't think like this. To them, the miracle question is like a relic [laughs]. We disagreed on this for the most part. I think the miracle question is a great invention, but sometimes focusing solely on that can cover up the process itself, and there are other ways of guiding the client to think of a problem-free future.” 

  “이브와 저는 기적질문에 대해서 조금 반대했습니다. 기적질문은 이제 거의 해결중심치료와 동의어가 되었습니다만. 저는 내담자에게 변화가 일어나는 까닭은 기적질문 때문이 아니라 내담자로 하여금 문제에서 자유롭게 만드는 모든 방법 때문이라고 생각했습니다. 기적질문은 여러 가지 방법 중의 하나일 뿐인 거죠. 그렇지만 김인수와 스티브는 이렇게 생각하지 않았어요. 그들에게 기적질문은 마치 '신주단지 같은' 존재였죠. (웃음) 우리는 기적질문에 관해서는 거의 모든 부분에서 의견이 달랐어요. 저는 기적질문이 위대한 발명품이라고 생각하지만, 내담자를 문제가 없는 미래로 안내하는 여러 가지 다른 방법이 분명히 존재합니다.”
